BLU Win HD with Windows 8.1

BLU Win HD with Windows 8.1

 for only $179

Little known Florida-based mobile phone manufacturer Blu Products knocked it out of the park in a first at-bat in the Windows Phone décor, recently launching a little guy that makes even Nokia Lumia 500-series handhelds feel overpriced.

Apparently we weren't the only ones charmed by Win Jr.’s incredible affordability, as Amazon ran out of stock days after the commercial release. There’s no word on when the 4 incher will return, but if you have a bit of extra money to spend and a passion for larger Windows slabs, the Win HD definitely deserves a chance.

Available for exactly double Junior’s pricing, the $179 Win HD is essentially a low-cost alternative for the soon-to-be-released Lumia 830. Nokia Microsoft doesn’t really have any other Win HD direct rivals around, and the much tinier, far less impressive Lumia 630 is only marginally cheaper.

Nice job of Blu to seize the market’s opportunities and vacancies then, albeit maybe, just maybe, their fresh 5 incher would have benefited from a slight performance gain. Even risking to add $10, $20 on top of the $179 currently charged on Amazon.

As things stand, the Win HD is clearly a top choice for budget users concerned primarily with fashion, color and footprint. Raw speed, not so much, as the skinny, yellow-coated WP 8.1-running device packs a modest quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 processor.

Youngsters should know “neon orange” and “neon green” flavors are also in the pipeline, and spec nuts will be glad to hear there’s 1 GB of RAM onboard, an 8 MP camera slapped on the rear and a 2,200 mAh battery keeping the lights on. Overall, an excellent quality-price ratio.
