Siri vs Cortana by BLU

Siri vs Cortana by BLU

It looks like BLU is jumping on the Bendgate Bandwagon as they too make an advertisement tackling the Mobile Tech Giant Apple in this latest advertisement teasing Siri about her lack of capabilities as well as the bending issue.  Another clever approach from the growin elephant in the room known as BLU Products.

BLU Win HD with Windows 8.1

BLU Win HD with Windows 8.1

 for only $179

Little known Florida-based mobile phone manufacturer Blu Products knocked it out of the park in a first at-bat in the Windows Phone décor, recently launching a little guy that makes even Nokia Lumia 500-series handhelds feel overpriced.

Apparently we weren't the only ones charmed by Win Jr.’s incredible affordability, as Amazon ran out of stock days after the commercial release. There’s no word on when the 4 incher will return, but if you have a bit of extra money to spend and a passion for larger Windows slabs, the Win HD definitely deserves a chance.

Available for exactly double Junior’s pricing, the $179 Win HD is essentially a low-cost alternative for the soon-to-be-released Lumia 830. Nokia Microsoft doesn’t really have any other Win HD direct rivals around, and the much tinier, far less impressive Lumia 630 is only marginally cheaper.

Nice job of Blu to seize the market’s opportunities and vacancies then, albeit maybe, just maybe, their fresh 5 incher would have benefited from a slight performance gain. Even risking to add $10, $20 on top of the $179 currently charged on Amazon.

As things stand, the Win HD is clearly a top choice for budget users concerned primarily with fashion, color and footprint. Raw speed, not so much, as the skinny, yellow-coated WP 8.1-running device packs a modest quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 processor.

Youngsters should know “neon orange” and “neon green” flavors are also in the pipeline, and spec nuts will be glad to hear there’s 1 GB of RAM onboard, an 8 MP camera slapped on the rear and a 2,200 mAh battery keeping the lights on. Overall, an excellent quality-price ratio.

BLU Win Jr Windows Phone

BLU Win Jr Windows Phone
Price Under $90

This review is brought to you by intomobile.  Now that every vendor on the planet can use Windows Phone free of charge, and can also rely on existing Android hardware, we’ll see any number of different smartphones running Microsoft’s mobile platform.

BLU Products is one of those looking to benefit from this opportunity — as we’ve reported before — and it has just launched what is arguably the single most affordable Windows Phone 8.1 handset ever.

The new BLU Win JR isn’t exactly a powerhouse under the hood, but you shouldn’t expect much more for $89, which is the amount Amazon and Microsoft are asking for the unlocked, SIM-free unit.

Anyhow, BLU is positioning its baby as a Lumia 530 competitor, even pointing out how it’s better than Nokia’s Microsoft’s product. The Win JR comes with better 5MP rear camera with auto-focus, VGA front-facing camera, and “bigger than Lumia 530″ 1,950 mAh battery. Rest of the specs are identical and include Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 chip, 4-inch WVGA screen, HSPA connectivity, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. The device is available in few colors, including white, magenta, yellow and orange.

BLU Products Smartphone with Windows Phone 8.1

BLU Products Smartphone

with Windows Phone 8.1 Quick Review

This review is brought to you by Mobilegeeks from the Computex 2014 Expo in Taiwan.  Their brief review states, "We're getting our hands on the new 4.0 inch Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone from BLU products, that obviously has a WVGA resolution and sports a 3.2 megapixel rear cam. No specs available but the device should be based on a Qualcomm platform running the Snapdragon 400 quadcore at 1,2 GHz. Looking pretty decent for a low end device with decent performance - retail price should be around 100 bucks would be my guess."

In addition to the BLU Studio 5.0C HD, BLU also announced the Studio C Mini which is meant to take on the likes of the Moto E, and in terms of specs and pricing, it certainly does. 4 New BLU Products Phones Under $150

4 New BLU Products Phones

 Under $150

As if BLU Products hasn't done enough to impress the mobile market, they now have 4 new unlocked phones available for under $150.  Flashy colors and dynamic feature packed models are what put BLU on the map but at $150 and under, it places them head and shoulders above the crowd.

The latest addition to its portfolio is the Studio C Series, which includes the Studio 5.0 C HD, C Mini, 5.0 C and 5.0 CE in a number of different colors.

The most advanced of the newcomers is the Studio 5.0 C HD. For US$149, it provides a 5.0-inch screen with a 1280 by 720 pixel resolution, an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel front camera. Under the hood, there is a quad-core processor from Mediatek running at 1.3GHz. The device has 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage that can be expanded to 64GB via a microSD card slot.

For users who want a slightly smaller phone, Blu offers the Studio C Mini for $119. It's powered by the same Mediatek processor and it too has 4GB of storage and a microSD card slot. But the amount of RAM has been halved to 512MB and it has a 4.7-inch screen with 800 by 480 pixels. There is a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front.  Those two phones are available now on Amazon.com.

For users who want a 5-inch screen, but a phone that's even cheaper than the Studio 5.0 C HD, Blu also offers the Studio 5.0 C and the 5.0 CE.  Both offer 854 by 480 pixel resolution, are powered by dual-core processors running at 1.3GHz from Mediatek and have 4GB of storage that can be expanded by up 32GB with a microSD card. Active apps will have to share 512MB of RAM.

The biggest difference between the two is that the C has a 5-megapixel camera on the back, while the CE has a 3.2-megapixel camera. They share the same VGA camera in the front. The CE also can't handle HSPA+ at 21Mbps, which the C and the other two models can. Instead CE users will have to rely on EDGE networks or Wi-Fi.

The Studio 5.0 C ($109) and Studio 5.0 CE ($89) will start shipping before the end of the month, Blu said.

All four phones are compatible with GSM networks in the U.S., including T-Mobile, AT&T, Metro PCS and Cricket Wireless.

Introducing the BLU Dash

Introducing the BLU Dash

Affordable phone maker BLU, has announced details to launch the BLU Dash smartphone with a Mediatek chip and FDD LTE support.  BLU’s range of phones are made up of various Mediatek phones, and the newest will be no different, well apart from supporting 4G LTE networks. The new BLU Dash is a mid-range, 5.5-inch phone running a Mediatek processor with LTE modem. The phone will support FDD-LTE, HSPA and GSM networks.

Looking over the hardware the Dash is going to be an affordable phone as it is based around a quad-core MT6582 chip, just 512mb RAM and has a screen resolution of only 854 x 480. Hopefully BLU will be rolling out a Kitkat update for the phone as it will ship initially with Android 4.2.

Blu Life One X

Blu Life One X

BLU is working hard to make a place for itself in the affordable unlocked phone market, and one of its latest offerings is the Life One X. Although it may not be a name that immediately comes to mind when thinking about major Android device manufacturers, Miami-based BLU offers a good range of compelling devices that can appeal to the right person who puts cost high on their list of necessities when buying a phone.

The Life One X (yes, exactly the same as the HTC One X) brings a pretty incredible set of specs to the table along with nearly-stock Android 4.2 and support for dual SIM cards for a mere $279 unlocked. And just like other recent BLU products, it wraps it up in a solid but uninspiring design that'll get the job done but won't win any design awards. But again, the phone is $279. Hit the break to see a bit more of what the BLU Life One X has to offer and what we think of the device overall.
BLU Life One XBLU Life One X
When you take the Life One X out of the box and hold it in your hand, you get the feeling that BLU is directly targeting a specific manufacturer with its design (and no, not the one that shares the product name). In the same way that the BLU Life View squared off against the Galaxy Note 2, the Life One X looks quite a bit like the Galaxy S4 from many angles. Although its back casing is mostly metal and there's no physical home button, the visual similarities are uncanny. Even the blue and white color choices look just like it.

Usually when you buy a phone at this price, you don't expect much in the way of high-end specs. That's not necessarily the case here, as the Life One X hits all of the bullet points of a modern, well-appointed device. We have a 5-inch IPS display at 1080x1920 resolution (that's 440 ppi), a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage and a 13MP camera. It also has dual SIM slots with support for HSPA+ 42 (sorry, no LTE) on AT&T or T-Mobile.

Unfortunately these very solid internal specs don't lead to the best software experience ever. Be it a lack of software optimization (we're looking at Android 4.2) to the hardware components or just lower-quality components themselves, the Life One X just isn't as smooth or quick as you'd expect with the horsepower under the hood. Web pages can stutter when you scroll, Google Maps has a couple hiccups when you pinch-to-zoom and there's just a bit of hesitation as you roll through the home screens and settings menus. It's a real shame, as the visuals themselves look great on this display.
BLU Life One XBLU Life One X
We know the market the BLU Life One X is targeting may not be the most discerning about phone performance and will focus on the price tag instead, but we've seen plenty of other manufacturers put together smooth performance at this price point or lower. Everything about the phone just seems "adequate," from the build quality and design to the software and camera performance.
And at this price point, that just might do it for enough people to spark up some sales numbers. BLU continues to make a much higher quality product than you expect for the price, and if it just kicks up the performance that extra bit to make even high-end phone users impressed, there could be a long line of well-received devices coming in the future.
